Desktop Metal sells Aerosint to Schaeffler

German-based, Publicly listed company and High-precision systems manufacturer Schaeffler has acquired Aerosint from US-based Desktop Metal in a strategic move.

Aerosint a Belgium company, specializes in powder deposition technology called Selective Powder Deposition (SDP). The company will be integrated with Schaeffler Special Machinery, under a new name Schaeffler Aerosint SA within the group.

The Financial details have not been disclosed by the Desktop Metal and Schaeffler Group.  Andreas Schick, Chief Operating Officer at Schaeffler AG said   “Schaeffler Aerosint SA offers the first industrial solution for simultaneous, metallic multi-material printing,”

It will be interesting to see how Schaeffler Engineers will make use of the Aerosint Patent.  Aerosint was founded in 2016, and it was acquired by Desktop Metal in 2021, they use multi-material printing which is opposite to the recoater blade that uses single material.

This technology can be applied to multiple techniques like Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), Binder Jetting, and  Pressure Assisted Sintering.

Schaeffler and Desktop Metal will continue their collaboration and produce multi material tool less production.
